Welcome, Readers

  • Short Story Sunday: The Conjurer’s Wife

Welcome back to another Short Story Sunday, readers. Today I want to take a look at The Conjurer’s Wife, by Sarah Penner, published in January 2025.

The story tells the tale of Olivia, a magician’s wife/assistant who’s started to become disillusioned of her illusionist husband. She finds a box that allegedly contains instructions for all of her husband’s magic tricks, and in advance of his most important show, she decides to open it. What she finds there shocks her to her core.

The Conjurer’s Wife made me feel all kinds of different feelings: anger at Olivia’s husband was the frontrunner. Let me tell you though, this woman is my hero. This story is all about empowerment in the face of those who make you feel less than. Read The Conjurer’s Wife when you’re mad at the world. It is great to read when you’re ready to say, “Enough is enough.”

Sarah Penner has written several full-length novels, some of which I may review on future posts. Her most recent publication, The Amalfi Curse, came out earlier this year, and it immediately went to the top of my TBR bookshelf. I’ll see you next week, and in the meantime, happy reading!
